(iHealthWire.Org)Richmond, VA (May 3, 2007) – Fight SMA and its program FighterMom announced today that they have published the third episode of the Fighting Back Podcast. The series features stories of inspiration about people and families who are fighting serious or even incurable diseases. The latest episode is the first of a two-part conversation with Fight SMA President Martha Slay, who has been called the “Original FighterMom”. In this episode, she discusses being a FighterMom and gives details of the recent Fight SMA National Spinal Muscular Atrophy Conference, held in Washington D.C.

Fight SMA is an international organization working to accelerate a cure for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). SMA is the leading genetic killer of children under two, occurring in up to one in 6,000 births. The FighterMom program, started by Fight SMA, provides education and support for mothers fighting any serious or incurable disease affecting their children.

“Part of the goal of FighterMom is to bring together mothers who are dealing with many of the issues that come with having seriously ill children,” said Mrs. Slay. “Producing this podcast gives us a way for these moms to hear the stories of people just like them, told in their own words.”
