Email Friend Contact Author (iHealthWire.Org) – Dr. Lewis sites public opinion polls show majority of democrats also feel the nation is now on the wrong track over healthcare reform. Dr. Lewis first publicized her American heritage roots and the popularity of the rising Tea Party Movement to engage right wing listeners and garner media attention for the February 20th one hour program protesting wasteful healthcare spending. Dr. Lewis advocates promoting prevention and wellness – and universal healthcare. She maintains cutting waste and rampant fraud is a first step in reform, not more of the same with new bill.
Citing wasteful government strategies including the lack of free screening and covered basic medications for vascular disease, diabetes, even cancer screening has ultimately cost taxpayers more. Tackling Medicare fraud, lack of accountability and high cost of preventable hospitalizations are first steps to real reform. The program encourages voters to pressure all officials in office over the current healthcare reform bill, protesting is not what they want. Dr. Lewis argues the impossibility of cuts to existing programs and ‘projected savings’ intended to cover the costs to insure all. She cites one example of cuts that will not work. Cutting hospice programs a projected 10 billion dollars over 10 years as part of the reform bill is ludicrous she maintains. It is one of the programs that can and does save taxpayers money and promotes access to care we do want. Imagine the impact of millions of dying baby boomers with less access to hospice care. Voters need to be made aware of particulars so they can put reelection fears in their officials.
